Toyota Motor Corp. was for another year at the top of sales worldwide. The Japanese sold 10.5 million vehicles in 2022 and despite a 9.6% decline in the domestic market (1.9 million sales), they saw their exports increase by registering a total of 8.6 million cars.
The "restrictions" in the supply chain, the lack of semiconductors and of course the energy crisis due to the war in Ukraine, was also a big puzzle for Toyota, but as it turned out in practice, the Japanese faced it better than their competitors.
However, for the first time in three years, the Japanese giant fell from the top seller in the North American market, with GM regaining the upper hand by selling 2,274,088 vehicles compared to Toyota-Lexus' 2,108,458 vehicles.
In second place in sales worldwide was the VW group, with the Germans of course selling 8.3 million models worldwide, a performance that is the worst for the group in the last 10 years! However, according to the forecasts of the Toyota people, 2023 will also remain "unstable", with the Japanese predicting that their annual sales will fluctuate at the same levels as in 2022.
