The Old Toyota Corolla AE86
The Toyota Corolla AE86 is a compact sports car that was produced by Toyota from 1983 to 1987. It is also known as the Toyota Sprinter Trueno in some markets. The AE86 is powered by a 4A-GE engine, a 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine that produces around 112 horsepower. It was available as a two-door coupe or a three-door hatchback and was known for its rear-wheel drive layout and lightweight design, which made it popular among enthusiasts for its handling and drifting capabilities. The AE86 is considered a cult classic and has gained a large following in the car enthusiast community.

The New Toyota Corolla AE86 Concept
At a time when electric restomods have become fashionable, Toyota presents its own proposal that can save old cars.
One concept concerns the AE86 H2 based on the chassis of the rear-wheel drive Corolla. But under the hood is a four-cylinder 1,600 engine that has undergone as many changes as are necessary to be able to respond to the burning of hydrogen.
Which is stored in two tanks located in the trunk. In fact, Toyota claims that it has developed the engine in such a way that its sound and general behavior are reminiscent of a classic gasoline engine.
The other concept is the AE86 BEV. It has an all-electric system with a motor from the Tundra hybrid, a battery from the Prius Plug-in, and components from other Toyota and Lexus models. The remarkable thing is that although the AE86 BEV is electric, it has a manual gearbox so that there is genuine driving pleasure.
In the interior, ecologically recycled materials are used for various parts, while the seats are restored by Bride. Of course all this is a technological demonstration without any indication of the production of official restomods by Toyota.
